Sometimes we don’t always need a “fact” book. For the most part, we have our trusted go-to’s for when we have a question about our health and symptoms. Perimenopause can be different. It can sneak up on you when you are not expecting it.

This book is a memoir, so it is based on real life experience, and observations of the world as she navigates through this change. It is deep, it is emotional, and it gives the reader something to really think about. What do the lives of “post reproductive” women look like?

If you are wanting a deep dive into menopause – historical relevance, science, spirituality – read this.

I don’t often have the time to read an entire book on any non-fictional topic. If I do, maybe I want it to take me AWAY from the life I’m leading. Maybe I want fiction and not just a re – creation of what is going on here at home. So maybe you, like me, like your facts furiously simple and laid out in 5 or so minutes.

I loved this article in O Magazine. It is simple. It made me feel hopeful. And it made me feel like I mattered in the world – no matter how old I am, no matter how “Invisible” I start to feel.

ESSAY: PAUSE – Mary Ruefle

Many years ago, my husband was in a business group. One of the spouses I got to know well was a smart, beautiful older woman in her late 60’s. She was vibrant, fun, sexy and full of life. I SO admired her. She told me something I will never forget. She said, “just wait, there comes a time as a woman, no matter how smart, gorgeous, or vivacious you are that you become invisible.” This stuck with me and now rings just a little too true. This essay, poignant and hearfelt reminded me of that conversation. A short essay that is beautiful and horrifyingly honest.

Now this is what every woman needs – a sexy menopause! 🙂 I don’t know about you, but that last thing I feel is sexy as I’m navigating inner (and outer) rage, and sweating though my shirt. I’m just happy to remember my own name. But somehow, Barb Dehn suggests menopause can be sexy. Well, the alternative ain’t great, so I will take the bait! 🙂

But seriously, this is a light, but informative and practical guide to the symptoms and signs of perimenopause. Another great read for the night stand. Sometimes we need a little light reading – and something that makes us feel acknowledged.
